Enchanted Rock State Natural Area - Leashes
I nfo: Fairy shrimp, massive chunks of pink
granite and rocks dating back 1 billion years make this area a
land of enchantment for you and your sidekick. Tote your own
water and hike through scenic, dome-shaped hills of rosy colored
rock. Wildflowers in springtime bring a cornucopia of color to
the landscape and add to your hiking and aesthetic pleasure. The
area is primitive, please respect the rules. Picnickers can
snout out one of the special, day-use areas and have a kibble

Directions: From Fredericksburg, head north on
FM 965 for 18 miles to park's entrance.
The numbered hikes that follow are within
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area:
1) Loop Trail Hike - Leashes|
Beginner/4.0 miles/2.0 hours
Info: Couch potato pooches, this flat simple
trail around the base of Enchanted Rock is just your speed. As
you loop about this billion-year-old granite dome, you'll pass
several spur trails that make for great little sidetrips to
scenic overlooks and ridgetops. Please remain on the trails, the
surrounding soil is prone to erosion. For more information:

Directions: From Fredericksburg, head north on
FM 965 for 18 miles to park's entrance.
2) Summit Trail Hike - Leashes
Intermediate/1.2 miles/0.5 hours
Info: This trail to the top of Enchanted Rock
may be short on distance, but not on effort. Get ready for an
aerobic workout as you and the dawgus climb 425 feet in just .6
miles. Your reward, summit vistas. Once at the top, sit a spell
and drink in the magnificence of the surrounding hill country or
check out the vernal pools. The pools are home to unique flora
and fauna that co-exist in dormant conditions from season to
season. This fragile ecosystem must be left undisturbed. For

Lady Bird Johnson
Municipal Park - Leashes
Info: Escape the city for awhile and settle in for a comfy
afternoon in the shade of an oak tree at this vast park.
Cloudgaze to your heart's content or try your luck at trout

Directions: Located two miles southwest of the Fredericksburg
city limits on Texas Highway 16 (Kerrville Highway).
LBJ State Historical Park - Leashes
I nfo: Give your pooch the VIP treatment by spending the day
combing the 700 acres of LBJ State Historical Park. Nestled in a
natural setting, this historical park offers lots of
eye-pleasing recreation for you and the tailwagger. You can
sniff out the past as you lead your history hound past the log
cabins that reflect the influence of early German settlers. Or
learn about the local flora on the 1.5-mile nature trail that
winds its way through lovely fields of dazzling wildflowers as
well as several wildlife enclosures and exhibits. Don't forget
your binoculars, the bird watching opportunities are excellent.
If you're a fishing fiend, try your rod in the river, while the
pooch munches on Scooby snacks beside you. For more information:

miles to park entrance.
The numbered hike that follows is within LBJ State
Historical Park:
1) Paseo Del Arroyo Nature Trail Hike - Leashes
Beginner/1.25 miles/0.5 hours
Info: Leash your hound since wildlife abounds on this
interpretive trail that journeys through a landscape filled with
white-tailed deer, bison, longhorn cattle and wild turkeys.
Glance skywards once in awhile for a sighting of the numerous
bird species that call this park home. If your pooch is a
sniffmeister at heart, plan a spring hike. The park's
spectacular wildflower display will send Bowser's tail and nose
