 What is it made of?

 The Smellkiller™ Air Cleanser disc is made of a special high-grade stainless steel alloy produced in Germany.  In Germany, there are over 480 types of stainless steel alloy, and the type used in the Smellkiller Air Cleanser was discovered after intricate testing.

How does it work?

The Smellkiller disc has hundreds of microscopic grooves that increase its actual surface area by 540 percent. Once the disc is partially immersed in water, the Smellkiller eliminates the molecules that create odors.  When these molecules react with the Smellkiller Air Cleanser alloy, water and oxygen, they disintegrate into fragments that the human nose can no longer identify as an odor.

What happens to the odors?

Odors are made of chains of molecules.  Think of an odor as a string of pearls of various sizes forming a pattern.  If you break the string, you are left with the individual pearls, but the pattern disappears.  Once this happens, the smell is gone.

Is the Smellkiller Air Cleanser a filter?

No, it is not a filter; it does not collect odors in the way filters catch pollens or dust.  Instead, the Smellkiller neutralizes odors in their tracks.

How was it discovered?

It was discovered in 2000 by a German engineer, who was experimenting with stainless steel alloys to learn more about new product applications.  One night he accidentally left an experimental piece in the factory bathroom, sitting in a puddle of water in the soap dish.  The next morning, people were astounded to find that their factory bathroom smelled clean and fresh.  This discovery inspired further experimentation that led to the perfection of the Smellkiller design.

How new is this product?

First introduced in Germany in 2001, the Smellkiller Air Cleanser has been an enormously successful product in Europe, Australia and Japan.  It became available in the United States and Canada in late 2003.

Is there proof that it works?

Yes!  The LGA, a German testing laboratory, has certified the Smellkiller Air Cleanser to be effective and safe. 

Testing has shown that if you cook with cabbage, onion and garlic in a room with an active Smellkiller Air Cleanser, within four hours the people entering that room cannot tell what you had cooked.  The same holds true for strong odors such as tuna, bananas, burnt toast, cheese, fish or even garbage.

How big an area can the Smellkiller Air Cleanser affect?

How quickly does it work?

Once activated with water, the Smellkiller Air Cleanser takes approximately five to six hours to reach its full effect, depending on the room size. For example, it takes just a couple of hours inside a refrigerator or a smaller closet.  As long as the disc remains partially immersed in water, the Smellkiller is working.  If the disc is not in contact with water, it will need to be reactivated simply by refilling the water.

Does it matter which side of the Smellkiller disc is immersed in water?

No.

How do you maintain it?

The Smellkiller Air Cleanser is dishwasher safe and easy to clean.  Wash the bowl or container every four to eight weeks with detergent or a vinegar-based cleaning agent to prevent lime build-up.  Prior to first use, the stainless steel disc must be washed with soap and water.

Is the product safe?

Smellkiller Air Cleansers have been certified as safe in Germany where it was originally introduced.  The LGA, a German testing laboratory, issued a “no health risk” certificate for the product in August 2002.  The Smellkiller Air Cleanser should only be used as intended.

Is the Smellkiller Air Cleanser environmentally friendly?

Yes.  The Smellkiller Air Cleanser is the most environmentally friendly odor remover on the market.  It is absolutely free of chemicals and received positive reviews from the German ecological consumers’ journal in February 2003.  Since the Smellkiller Air Cleanser is made out of high-grade stainless steel, the product does not emit any harmful byproducts.

There are some smells I don’t want to eliminate.  Will the Smellkiller Air Cleanser get rid of those smells too?

The Smellkiller Air Cleanser provides long-term odor elimination for stubborn odors like a dog’s pillow, litter box or the lingering smell of fried foods.  Since the Smellkiller Air Cleanser does not get rid of odors upon contact, you can still fully enjoy desirable smells, like freshly baked sweets and breads.

Is there anything else like Smellkiller Air Cleanser?

            No.  The product is patent-protected worldwide.

How long will the Smellkiller Air Cleanser last?

            The product is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
